2. Works featuring technological components

This sub-section deals with the preservation methods for artworks that feature technological components as outlined in Section I. These works are unique in that they often pose problems associated with the obsolescence or eventual obsolescence of their various technological components, be these components media supports or the equipment they are shown on. Such problems can be resolved using a range of conservation strategies as described below. The main challenge in preserving artworks that feature technological components is obsolescence, which results from the inability to replace original equipment with similar models, their commercial production having been abandoned.
