2009 Seminar: Documentation and Conservation of Media Artworks

Documentation et conservation du patrimoine des arts médiatiques (Documentation and Conservation of Media Artworks) is a University course devised in collaboration with members of a vast multi-institutional and multidisciplinary research alliance. The latter is supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), through its Community-University Research Alliance Program (CURA). Under the direction of the Daniel Langlois Foundation for Art, Science and Technology, this Seminar is primarily designed for students working towards a Masters degree in visual and media arts, art history, art conservation, communications, or museum studies.

The Seminar addresses questions,  challenges and issues related to the documentation and conservation of media arts, which museologists, artists, critics, art historians and theoreticians, as well as teachers and students, have to deal with.

In 2009, the DOCAM Seminar was held from January 12 to April 20, at Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and instructed by Dr. Sylvie Lacerte, as part of the joint masters program in museums studies of UQAM and Université de Montréal. The Seminar is structured as a series of presentations by guest lecturers, followed by round-table discussions with the students.

Please note that the course description & readings and the presentations from guest speakers are only available in French since the seminar was taught at UQAM.
