In this paper Costis Dallas analyzes the theory and practice of digital curation, beginning with the definition provided by UK Digital Curation Centre. He provides an overview of digital curation activities in a variety of disciplines and questions why there has been little engagement to date with curatorial practice in the field of museums, art and cultural heritage. Some characteristics which distinguish digital curation from other practices, such as digital preservation, are a lifecycle-based approach, the multiplicity of stakeholders implied by this approach, and the need for representation of epistemic aspects of digital objects. | |
