The Neuberger Museum of Art (based at the State University of New York, in Purchase) has made a major commitment to the study of new media through its five-part exhibition series. 'New Media: Who' , shown in 2004, included works from Nam June Paik and net art pioneers Mendi and Keith Obadike. 'New Media: What' attempted to define what constitutes new media, while ultimately displaying the diverse nature of media-based practices in effect today, including digital animation, machine vision, sound art, and web-based work. 'New Media: Where' focused on the theme of displacement and the sensory and social projection into the abstract digital world. The current exhibition, 'New Media: When' is showing from February 11 to June 10, 2007 and includes works by Char Davies, LoVid, Marshall Reese and Nora Ligorano, and Brooke Singer. The current exhibition focuses on perceptions and representations of the temporal, and the ways in which artworks can change in form, as they evolve. The last exhibition 'New Media: Why' is still to come. | |
