The Dia Art Foundation is a "non-profit institution founded in 1974, renowned for initiating, supporting, presenting, and preserving art projects." (source: Dia Art Foundation website) The Foundation has numerous projects, which include: Dia at the Hispanic Society, Dia:Beacon, Dia:Chelsea and Artists' Web Projects. For the latter one, the Dia Art Foundation has commissioned projects from artists exploring the medium of web-based works. These works range from screen savers (Ezra Johnson's Wrestling with the Blob Beast), to collections of film, images, texts and audio existing on numerous websites (Rosa Barba's Vertiginous Mapping),to an interactive video of singing toy chicks (Liliana Porter's Rehearsal), amongst others. The projects are listed chronologically starting with the most recent, and can be viewed and downloaded free of charge. Each one is accompanied by an introduction explaining what should happen if the piece works properly and stating a brief history of the artist and their artistic concerns. | |
